Run Local AI On Old Chromebook

Tight budget, spare device in a drawer, and a growing need for faster writing and admin? For many UAE SMEs, that old Chromebook feels like a wasted asset, especially after Google stops sending updates.

When we say an unsupported Chromebook, we mean it has reached the end of its automatic updates, so it no longer gets the latest security patches. When we say on-device AI, we mean the model runs on the laptop itself (not a cloud chatbot), so it can work offline and keep drafts on the device.

Before we install anything, we need a quick reality check. In the UAE, lots of older Chromebooks come from office hand-me-downs, school devices, or second-hand buys in Dubai, Sharjah, or Abu Dhabi. Some are perfectly usable, some will feel like a taxi trying to tow a bus.
